Fleurs, the French-leaning restaurant at 2205 N. Front Street, has closed after a short seven-month run just north of Fishtown.

The Inquirer reported on April 8 that the owners planned to end service on April 12 after opening to strong attention but not enough business to support the size and cost of the project. The restaurant came from chef George Sabatino, Josh Mann, and Graham Gernsheimer, and occupied a former furniture store in a part of Kensington that has seen more restaurant energy pushing north from Frankford and Front.

For neighborhood diners, it is another reminder that a good kitchen is not always enough when financing, rent, buildout scope, and weekly foot traffic all have to work at the same time. Fleurs was one of the more ambitious openings near the Fishtown and Kensington border, and its quick closure leaves a visible gap on North Front Street.
